GMWEA receives Lake Champlain Basin Program Grant
GMWEA is in the fourth year of sponsoring World Water Monitoring Day. World Water Monitoring Day kits enable Vermont Science Teachers to take their students outside and test local waters for pH, temperature, turbidity and dissolved oxygen levels. Over 122,000 people from 81 different countries participated last year. GMWEA gave out 100 test kits to 29 different Vermont schools in 2009. Each kit is used by up to 10 students and their findings are entered into the worldwide database. This year, in addition to the kits, GMWEA has secured a grant from the Lake Champlain Basin Program to purchase a HACH 890 meter and reagents. This meter will be available for loan to Vermont educators, in the Lake Champlain watershed, to enable students to test for additional parameters including phosphorus. GMWEA professionals will train the teachers in the use of the meter.
For additional information please contact Bob Fischer Chair, GMWEA Early Education Outreach Committee.
GMWEA hosted it's first Legislative Meet and Greet on Thursday, April 15th.
It was a wonderful first step for GMWEA Board and Members to meet and chat with Vermont's Legislators. We networked and gained some great name and mission awareness! Thanks to the following individuals for joining us:
Board Members: Dave Harris, Bob Wood, Rick Kenney, Mary Ellen Parkman, and Tom DiPietro. Other GMWEA members that joined us were Bruce Hoar, Lisa Sheltra, Jim Fay, Mike Barsott, Jim Jutras, Gene Forbes, Tom Nesbitt, and Erik Bailey.
Hopefully this will be the beginning to a great working relationship between GMWEA and the Vermont Legislature!

After much thought and deliberation, I regrettably resign my post as Executive Director of the GMWEA effective January 1st. After ten years with the Association, eight as the Executive Director, I feel that the time has come to move on to new challenges and opportunities. I've enjoyed the work that I have done with, and for, the Association and hold you all dear to my heart. I've grown both personally and professionally through the experiences that I have encountered through this organization.
I will continue to work with GMWEA in a more limited capacity through the administrative contract that GMWEA has with the Vermont League of Cities and Towns. I will still receive all your mail and phone calls and look forward to seeing you all at our Spring and Fall Conferences along with the golf tournament and other events in between. I will also be working with the GMWEA Board of Directors to help them find a new Executive Director to serve this great organization well into the future.
Thank you and I wish you all a very happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Jessica Hill
