Board Member Position Description

GMWEA Seeks New Board Member (January, 2019)

GMWEA seeks a new person to serve on its 12-member board of directors, replacing a recently-retired member. It’s an exciting opportunity to take a leadership role in supporting Vermont’s water-quality professionals, advocating for best-practice policy, and promoting public knowledge of drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater management.

Tenure: From time of appointment to GMWEA’s annual Spring Meeting in May, 2020.  At that time, may run for election to a three-year term.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a GMWEA member in good standing.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years in the water quality industry or as a member of the association.
  • Must be a Vermont resident or work for an entity that does business in Vermont.
  • Nondiscrimination: GMWEA does not restrict board membership on the basis race, color, religion, gender, disability, or national origin.


Responsibilities:

Active engagement in guidance and operation of the organization.
Participation in at least one of GMWEA’s standing committees -- Membership, Public Relations, Government Affairs, and Continuing Education – or a specific, short-term project/program committee.
Attendance at monthly board meetings in person or by phone required.  (Some absences are permitted by GMWEA’s Bylaws. Typically, meetings occur alternately in South Burlington and Montpelier at 3 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month.)
